Server Rules
FortressMC (FORTRESS, FMC) is a semi-anarchy Civ server. Most conflict, law, and punishment are handled by players through in-game mechanics (Citadel, ExilePearl, Snitch, and so on). Admins do not run nations, settle wars, or return stolen items.
That does not mean there are no rules. Hacking, exploits, and certain forms of harassment are banned. Everything else is fair game until another player stops you.
What admins ban for
These are enforced by staff. Breaking them can result in kicks, temporary bans, or permanent bans.
Hacking and illegal clients
Using hacked clients, cheat mods, or any third-party software that gives an unfair advantage is not allowed. FortressMC is not a full anarchy server.
Examples of prohibited behavior:
- X-ray, kill aura, reach, auto-clickers beyond vanilla limits, flight hacks, speed hacks
- Inventory or movement exploits injected through client mods
- Any mod or tool designed to bypass server-side protections
Allowed: vanilla clients, recommended mods listed on this site (Simple Voice Chat, Distant Horizons, legal minimaps with cave mode off), and other cosmetic or QoL mods that do not grant gameplay advantages.
Report suspected cheaters in Discord as soon as you have evidence.
Exploits and bug abuse
Using bugs or unintended mechanics for personal gain is not allowed. This includes duping, bypassing plugins through glitches, or refusing to report a known exploit you are using.
If you find a bug, report it. Withholding exploit information can result in a ban.
Harassment and bigotry
Harassment based on out-of-game factors is banned. This includes hate speech, slurs, bigotry, and targeted harassment tied to real-world identity.
In-game conflict (raiding, pearling, war trash talk about nations or characters) is normal Civ gameplay. Attacking people for who they are in real life is not.
Ban evasion and associations
Creating alt accounts to evade a ban is not allowed. Being closely associated with players permanently banned for hacking or similar offenses may also result in action against your account.
What admins do not ban for
These are handled by player-run justice, not staff.
| Action | Admin response | Player response |
|---|---|---|
| Raiding unprotected or poorly protected bases | No ban | Snitches, pursuit, pearling, war |
| Griefing reinforced builds you can break | No ban | Break or acid blocks, counter-raids, diplomacy |
| Pearling someone in PvP | No ban | Negotiate release, vault the pearl, war |
| Stealing from unlocked chests | No ban | Snitches, keys, bastions, retaliation |
| Logging out in combat | No ban | [[Plugins/Finale |
| Breaking diplomacy or starting wars | No ban | Politics, alliances, military response |
You can raid and grief without being banned by admins. That does not mean you will get away with it. Nations use Snitch networks, reinforcement, and pearling to track, punish, and imprison offenders.
Semi-anarchy in practice
FortressMC sits between towny/factions servers and true anarchy:
- Freedom: player-run nations, laws, economies, wars, and prisons
- Limits: no hacks, no exploits, no real-world bigotry or harassment
Admins maintain the server software and enforce the short list above. They do not intervene in pearling disputes, land claims, vault breaks, or stolen goods unless a server rule above was broken.
Reporting
Report hacking, exploits, or harassment through Discord tickets when you have evidence (screenshots, logs, coordinates, timestamps).
Do not publicly accuse players without proof. Staff may not share details of another player’s ban.
