Server rules
FortressMC is a semi-anarchy Civ server in which most political, military, and economic disputes are resolved by players. Staff maintain the server and enforce rules concerning cheating, exploits, ban evasion, and conduct involving real-world harm. They do not administer nations, settle wars, restore stolen property, or ordinarily intervene in pearling disputes.
Cheating
Client modifications are prohibited when they allow actions unavailable to an unmodified client, including impossible movement, extended reach, protection bypasses, or input rates beyond sustained human performance. Combat automation is prohibited in all forms.
Prohibited tools and actions include:
- kill aura, aimbot, automatic attacks, and automatic targeting;
- bots, macros, or other automated inputs used during player-versus-player combat;
- interaction beyond vanilla reach;
- flight, speed, or noclip movement unavailable through ordinary gameplay;
- fast breaking or interaction that bypasses vanilla cooldowns or distances;
- duplication, illegal-stack, packet, inventory, and protection-bypass exploits; and
- automation exceeding the limits in Botting and Mods.
Display modifications are permitted. Examples include x-ray, freecam, entity radar, minimaps, schematics, replays, world downloads, and level-of-detail renderers. Cosmetic and performance modifications are also permitted. Inventory utilities may be used outside combat, provided that they do not produce a direct combat advantage.
Exploits
The deliberate use of bugs or unintended mechanics for personal advantage is prohibited. This includes item duplication, protection bypasses, illegal item states, and the continued use of an unreported exploit. A player who withholds information about an exploit being used may be banned.
Bugs and exploits should be reported through the FortressMC Discord. Reports may receive an in-game reward according to the severity and potential impact of the issue.
Harassment and real-world harm
The following conduct is prohibited:
- publishing private or identifying information without consent;
- stalking or making threats of real-world harm;
- using hate speech or slurs to target a person on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, gender identity, disability, or a comparable characteristic; and
- sustained harassment outside the game intended to drive a person from the server or its associated platforms.
Ordinary insults, political hostility, wartime rhetoric, raiding, and conflict between in-game nations are not normally treated as administrative harassment. Players may use /ignore <player> to hide another player’s chat messages.
Ban evasion and assistance
The use of alternate accounts to evade a ban is prohibited. Association with a banned player, including membership in the same nation, alliance, or online community, does not by itself constitute a violation. Staff may act when evidence shows that another player assisted the evasion or knowingly benefited from the banned player’s cheating. Assistance may include supplying an alternate account, concealing property, or transferring gains obtained through prohibited conduct.
Network restrictions
VPN and proxy connections are blocked by default. Networks used by an unusually large number of accounts may also be blocked to limit alternate-account abuse. Households, schools, campuses, and other legitimate shared networks may appeal through Discord.
Player-run justice
The following actions are ordinarily outside the scope of administrative enforcement:
- raiding or stealing from inadequately protected property;
- breaking reinforced blocks through intended mechanics;
- griefing that does not use an exploit;
- pearling another player after combat;
- abandoning an agreement, breaking diplomatic relations, or beginning a war; and
- disconnecting during combat, since Finale leaves the player’s body in the world.
Players may respond through surveillance, diplomacy, retaliation, warfare, or exile pearling. The existence of an in-game action does not imply that staff will protect its user from political or military consequences.
Reporting violations
Reports of cheating, exploits, ban evasion, or prohibited harassment should be submitted through Discord with available screenshots, logs, coordinates, and timestamps. Public accusations without supporting evidence should be avoided. Staff may withhold details about an investigation or another player’s ban.
