Server Overview

FortressMC (also called FORTRESS or FMC) is a Civ-style Minecraft server running Folia 1.21.11. Gameplay is modified heavily by custom plugins: reinforcement, bastions, keys, pearling, factories, custom XP, and structure-free world generation. This site documents every change from vanilla, how each plugin works, and how to join.

What is FortressMC?

Civilization building

FortressMC’s main focus is the simulation of civilization. Blocks are protected individually through Citadel reinforcement, not by faction or towny land claims. Buildings, cities, and nations control their territory block by block, and that protection can be broken with enough effort.

ExilePearl lets nations imprison players through combat. Combined with Bastion vault fields and Interaction Keys access control, groups can enforce their own laws when diplomacy fails.

Community

Community matters on FortressMC. Alliances, trade networks, and shared infrastructure make you harder to raid and easier to grow. Friendships and connections also shape local politics and international diplomacy between nations.

Economy

The economy centers on Experience and Factories. Most vanilla XP sources are disabled. XP comes from bottles o’ enchanting and emeralds, which factories and other trades consume alongside Player Essence.

Factories replaces all villager trades. Villagers must be invested in to specialize, then produce bulk items (usually 27 per shulker trade). Efficient production takes organized communities.

Politics

Player-driven politics decide the course of the server. Nations are organized and run by players who negotiate treaties, alliances, and borders without admin intervention. FortressMC is often described as semi-anarchy: wide freedom to build, trade, fight, and govern, while hacks, exploits, and harassment are still not allowed.

See Server Rules for what staff enforce vs what players enforce.

War

War on FortressMC can last weeks or months. Nations prepare armor, potions, bunkers, ice roads, and vaults (massive obsidian structures dug to bedrock where pearled players and wealth are kept). Finale means logging out does not make you safe: your body stays in the world and can be killed or pearled offline.

World and map

The overworld is a bounded map: currently ±10,000 blocks from spawn on X and Z. Structure generation is disabled (generate-structures=false). There are no villages, strongholds, monuments, or other vanilla structures. Loot and mobs that normally come from structures are replaced by MobController and MiscTweaks.

The map radius is planned to expand with each major worldgen update. Existing builds in the inner area are kept; new terrain is added at the edges.

See World Design for portal grid layout and nether bounds. A live web map runs on squaremap (port 18742; link also posted in Discord).

Surveillance

Snitch uses calibrated sculk sensors as snitches. Reinforce and key-bind a sensor to log players without key access. Block history and brush forensics track who placed or broke blocks.

Server plugins

Below are the custom plugins that define FortressMC gameplay.

  • Interaction Keys: key locks for blocks, chests, and entities
  • Bastion: city and vault protection fields on beacons and conduits
