World Design

FortressMC uses a fixed-size overworld rather than an infinite map. The current playable area is a ±10,000 block square centered on spawn.

Playable area

AxisRange
X-10,000 to +10,000
Z-10,000 to +10,000
Total20,000 × 20,000 blocks

Land is finite. Reinforcement (Citadel) and bastions (Bastion) matter because territory cannot expand infinitely outward.

End portal grid

Vanilla strongholds do not generate because generate-structures=false. Eyes of ender will not work normally. MiscTweaks places a fixed grid of end portal frames and redirects eye throws to the nearest site.

SettingValue
Grid spacing5,000 blocks
Half-extent±10,000 blocks
Frame Y level20 (underground)
Portal sites~24 (5×5 grid minus origin)

Each site has 12 end portal frames in a ring. Throw an eye of ender and it points toward the nearest grid point. There is a 20% chance the eye is consumed on throw.

To reach the End, find a portal frame site (use eyes of ender to locate one), fill the frames with eyes, and enter the portal as normal.

Nether bounds for pearled players

The overworld is ±10,000, but pearled players are confined to a smaller nether area:

  • Random respawn within ±1,250 blocks of nether spawn (0, 0)
  • Portal lock prevents leaving the nether via portals
  • See ExilePearl for full pearling mechanics

Border expansion

The world border radius will increase with each major worldgen update. When Minecraft adds significant terrain changes, FortressMC will extend outer chunks and increase the playable radius.
